Gareth Bale refused to join Manchester United this summer.

The Real Madrid star was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent months.

Reports last week claimed United and Real were in talks over a deadline day move involving the Wales international.

However, according to Spanish transfer outlet Don Balon, Bale had other ideas.

They say Real president Florentino Perez and Zinedine Zidane had sanctioned the move, with the La Liga champions set to spend the money on Kylian Mbappe.

Don Balon claim Jose Mourinho had convinced United to spend £90m (€100m) on the winger, 28.

But Bale refused to join United and he snubbed talks with the Red Devils.

Bale, who has won three Champions League trophies during his time in Spain, is desperate to stay at Real.

Mbappe went on to join Paris St-Germain on a season-long loan on Thursday.
